2009 BSG Bursaries
Dear all,
BSG in
partnership with Hosken Consolidated Investments (HCI), are offering
bursaries to students completing commerce, business science or science
degrees, with computer science or information systems as a major subject. The
bursary is open to all years of study for these undergraduate degrees
(including the 4th year in business science).
In order to qualify for the bursary the student must meet the following criteria:
- The applicant must be living in South Africa, have matriculated in SA, or be a refugee with official refugee status living in SA
- The applicant must be completing full-time courses at public educational institutions registered with the Department of Education
- The applicant may not be in full-time employment
- The applicant must be completing an undergraduate degree (this includes the 4th year of the business science degree)
- The applicant must be under the age of 35 years
- The combined parental income, or household income at the applicant’s home residential address must be R15 000 per month or less. Successful applicants will be awarded two thirds of the cost of registration and course studies up to a maximum of R13 000
- Where combined parental income or household income is R7 000 per month or less, successful applicants will be awarded three quarters of the cost of registration and course fees, to a maximum of R14 500
Bursary
Requirements:
- A new application must be made for each year of the course
- If the student changes his/her degree and/or drops computer science or information systems as a major during the course of the year, BSG reserves the right to discontinue the bursary for subsequent years
- If the student changes his/her degree and/or drops computer science or information systems as a major at the commencement of the degree or subsequent years of study, BSG reserves the right to disallow the bursary
- In both the above instances the student will not be liable to reimburse BSG for any bursary funds provided for previous years of study
- School leavers applying for the first time must submit their official grade 12 results
- Students entering their 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of study must submit the official results for the previous year of study
Students who
wish to apply must submit a CV, academic transcript for every year of study
to date, parent(s) proof of income, and a motivational letter. This
information should be sent to bursaries@bsg.co.za or alternatively
faxed to 021-418 0999 for attention: Gillian Veldsman. Following an initial review of the application, short-listed
applicants will be sent a bursary application form for completion. Bursary
applications (including the bursary application form) for 2009 must reach BSG
by 30 September 2008 in order for us to
meet the HCI closing date of 15 October 2008.
Bursaries are awarded to students who, upon successful completion of each course level, will be funded for the subsequent level to attain a first tertiary qualification.
