It's that time of year again. The ACM ICPC regional contest takes place on Saturday 11 October. If you haven't heard much about it, this is a programming contest for university students which UCT has been highly. If you would like to find out more about the contest read http://acm.cs.uct.ac.za/ .

Registration:

If you would like to compete you will need to register here: http://acm.cs.uct.ac.za/register/ . Please note that to enter you need to be a registered student and you either started studying in 2004 or later, or you were born in 1985 or later.

Training:

We have put together a training schedule of 4 Saturday sessions where we will go through a range of training procedures covering contest strategy, specific problem solving techniques such as graph theory and dynamic programming, and straight-forward practice contests. The tentative schedule is:

9 August: Practice contest
23 August: Contest strategy
13 September: TBA
27 September: TBA
11 October: Real contest

For the first session this Saturday we will start the practice contest at 10:00 in The Shuttleworth Lab, so please arrive about 15 minutes before. If you have not yet got a definite team then we recommend you attend at least the 2nd session. Our aim is to get teams formed early on so that you can practice together as a team which is very important.

Please direct any questions to Marco Gallotta at mgallott@cs.uct.ac.za
