Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Computer Graphics

Purpose:

The Collaborative Visual Computing Laboratory in the Computer Science Department is offering a Post-Doctoral Fellowship funded by the Center for High Performance Computing in the area of GPU acceleration of Computer Graphics algorithms for Cultural Heritage and Visual Effects applications.

Eligibility and Academic Criteria:

Applications are invitied from individuals of any nationality who are in possession of a relevant Doctoral Degree; particularly candidates who have a strong background and publications in Computer Graphics and GPU Computing. The successful applicant would be primarily responsible for research into the "GPU-Acceleration of Algorithms for Cultural Heritage Reconstruction, Analysis and Visualisation", focusing on the use of distributed GPU computing to address problems arising from the massive and varied data-sets generated by the scanning of cultural heritage structures in Africa. A secondary area of research would be the investigation and development of GPU-cluster solutions for other applications, such as graphical simulation tools for the local Visual Effects industry.

Conditions:

Applicants must:
•    Have obtained a PhD degree within the last five years.
•    Not previously have held a full-time academic appointment
The successful incumbent will be required to comply with the University’s approved policies, procedures and practises for the postdoctoral sector. He or she may also be required to participate in departmental activities such as limited teaching and supervision. No further benefits, such as a travel allowance, are included in the fellowship. No service will be required in return for the fellowship.

Value:

The value of the fellowship is R300 000 per annum.
The fellowships is tenable for one year, with a possibility of renewal.
