UCT CS teams placed 2nd and 3rd in SA Imagine Cup Game Dev Finals

The Imagine Cup is an international software design competition, sponsored by Microsoft.

This year a game development session was included in the proceedings, along with a theme which all games needed to incorporate. The Department of Computer Science was invited to send the best 3 teams from their Game Development programme to compete in SA finals in Johannesburg. Two of these teams were placed in the top 3 of the competition:
  • Team ROM (Richard Pieterse, Ryan Mazzolini & Matthew Miller) were placed second, and
  • Team SegFault (Kevin Brenkel, Walter Steenekamp and Cameron Nagel) were placed third.
For their efforts, the team members each received a cash prize and the Department was awarded 2 new Xbox360 consoles with Kinect sensors for their games course.
